It’s a six-day walk in Morocco’s Atlas Mountains. You will enjoy the Ousertek Valley’s unspoiled beauty, which is best explored on-foot. Your trail will take you through walnut groves, terraced fields and beautiful waterfalls. You’ll have a break to enjoy your picnic in the beautiful Berber village scenery. You also get a better insight into the local culture as you stay in a Berber-style Moroccan home in the village of Gliz and Tachdirth, you see working women, almond and walnut groves, and centuries-old irrigated terraced fields. You’re getting ready for a steep climb to the Maghreb’s highest peak from where you can enjoy beautiful views of the Atlas Mountains. This exciting tour shows you a side of Morocco that is never seen by many tourists.
We drive to Imi-oughlad for 54 kms to meet our team including the carriers and the cook. We set off for the Imenane Valley after loading the mules and continued to climb slowly towards Tizi n’Lbour and down into the village of Imeskar. After lunch here, we continue through a small valley enjoying the shadow of huge walnut trees. We climb easily into the village of Tinghar and then climb towards the village of Tidili and the small village of Gliz.
Thi s6-hour walk starts with a short climb towards Tizi-n-Oukaimden3700 m, from where we have magnificent views over the Ousrtik valley and the distant Toubkal mass peaks. After a break, we continue towards the Ski resort, the highest in North Africa. We stopped shortly after the station for lunch before we walked by the Eddi collar and joined the Tachdirth Valley, where we spent the night.
Matat We walk down the assif imnane valley, passing through several Berber hamlets; and then walk up to tizi n’ageursiwal (2000 m). After a break at the col, we walk down more winding mule tracks leading to the village of aguersiwal, where we have lunch. We set off for Matat, where we finally arrive after a 5-hour walk.
A 6-hour trek from Matat Valley to the Azzadene Valley. You will pass Tizi Oudite at 2,250 m, the village of Ait Aissa, Tizi oussm Village and Azib n’Tansoult. Overnight in the Azib n Tamsoult mountain refuge at 2300m.
A walk of 6 hours. We set off east on a rather difficult hike up winding mule tracks to the Tizi Aguelzim (3,104 m) where we take our picnic. We walk another 3 hours south-east to the Toubkal Refuge, which marks the spring snowline at 3,207 m. We dine in the shelter and spend the night.
Today we wake up early to climb Toubkal, North Africa’s highest mountain and one of Moroccan High Atlas Mountains ‘ beautiful tourist spots. We cross the stream above the refuge and then cross one of the numerous scree areas in the mountains, making the walk-in parts quite difficult. It’s relatively straightforward, however, and the views along the way make the trip more than worthwhile. We are on the plateau cresting the ridgeline, from where there is a short walk to the summit. From here, there are unrestricted views in all directions, from the Marrakesh Plain to the North High Atlas and south as the Anti-Atlas and the Sahara. After taking enough pictures and having some food, we go back down the mountain to Imlil, from where we drive back to Marrakech.
