Ideal Express Combination of a day walk in the Atlas Mountains followed by an overnight camping in the Oasis of Nakhla (Draa valley); Great introduction toward the Southern locale of Morocco.
We leave Marrakech around 8h in the first part of the day and drive for 1h20 south up the Moulay Brahim Gorges, then to Agersioual (1,600m), in the upper level foothills of the Western High Atlas Mountains. Here we leave the Vehicle and meet our neighborhood local guide to set out eastwards for some 12km walking to the Berber village of AIkkiss (1700m), over Tizi n agersioual pass (2200m). We eat by the river and continue walking up the Imnane valley then over Tizi n Tamter pass (2779m), from where we can see the two valleys, the Imlil Valley and the Imnane valley. We trek down from here for another 1h30 to the village of Imlil where we enjoy an evening feast in the enchanting Gite (Guesthouse). The entire walking trek takes 6hours.
To get to Zagora, we drive for 8 hours through the High Atlas Mountains by means of the Tizi n’Tichka pass (2260m) and Agdz. We stop for lunch in Ourzazate. When we touch base at our destination, we end up in a regular desert oasis, and important stopping for camel caravans and now a gateway to the desert. We begin a camel ride for a short trek and then get to our camp in the Oasis of Nakhla.
An early takeoff from Zagora permits us to have lunch at Aït Benhaddou-a fortified city along the caravan route between Sahara and Marrakech-and explore the antiquated mud walled Kasbah. We arrive in Marrakesh in the afternoon after 7 hours driving.
