Erg Chebbi is a dune field of around 22 Km from north to south and around 5 Km from east to west at the widest point. The highest dune sitting at 884 m, is in the north. Among the dunes, there are a few oases and you can without much effort get water just by digging a bit. The outing to the oasis begins with a long route by road which is an experience itself geographically, and due to the various stops, it would be nice to cool down and get in contact with the people.

Itinerary

Day 1Marrakech Through Aït BenHaddou Via El-Kelaâ M’Gouna To Dades Gorges

Wepick you up from your hotel. You will be driven across the TiziN’Tichka Pass (2260 m). As usual, you get chances to take photographs and appreciate the scenes of High Atlas Mountains and its Berber villages. We stop at the Aït Benhaddou village to take a break, eat and explore the Kasbah. From here, we drive on to Ouarzazate where you may have a stop to view the Kasbah of Taourirt that was worked by the Glaoui tradition then we proceed to Skoura where you will be totally attracted by the palm grove en route. We continue towards Boumalne du Dadès or El Kelaa M’gouna (Valley of the Roses), and the Dadès (Valley of One Thousand Kasbahs). Supper is served with an over-night spent in a hotel.

Day 2Boumalne du Dadès Through Tineghir Via Todra Gorges to Marzouga

We leave the hotel after breakfast and set for Tineghir then to Todra Gorges. We stop for an amazing panoramic view of the river; we then continue the road along river to get the gorges where we have a break for lunch. We travel on foot through this great place, enjoying the views of high rock walls (up 300 meters). After this, we drive to Merzouga passing by Tinejdad and Erfoud, where we may have a stop to visit one of the marble fossil carriers. We then proceed to your hotel located on the foots of the orange dunes of Erg Chebbi. We will expereince a camel ride to reach the desert camp amidst dunes where we enjoy our evening, dine under the stars and sleep in Nomad Berber tent.

Day 3Tour Around Erg Chebbi dunes.

We drive to explore to the small villages around Erg Chebbi dunes, for example, Hassi Labied, Merzouga and Khamlia. In Hassi Labied, we will have a stop at the garden where you view a river canal irrigation system. We follow the trail toward Merzouga and grab the opportunity to see Dayet Srji Lake. The latter which forms amid spring season, draws in flocks of pink flamingos and wildslife. On our way to Khamlia, known as the village of dark individuals who were slaves originating from Sudan, we expect to meet local people demonstrating their desert foxes, and we may also encounter desert reptiles and mammals. When we arrive, we will be invited with some tea while spiritual Gnawa music. Our next stop is on the golden dunes close to the Algerian border. We may enjoy a break for picnic lunch under the shadow of a tree before proceeding to visit a Nomad family to know more about their lifestyle. Afterwards, we visit the sites of dark volcanic rocks. Proceeding on, we reach the panorama close to Yasmina Auberge where we will be astonished by the scene of the dunes and the nearby lake. We return to our hotel for lunch and go spend the night there. Supper and breakfast are included.

Day 4Desert » Rissani » Alnif » Tazzarine » N'kob » Agdz » Ouarzazate.

After breakfast, we leave the amazing dunes of Erg Chebbi and travel to Ouarzazate via Rissani, Alnif, Tazarine, N’kob and Agdz. En route, we stop for lunch and enjoy the views of Acacia trees, the valley of Daraa and rock formations of Ait saoun mountain before we reach Ouarzazate, where we go spend the night in a riad in Ouarzazate.

Day 5Ouarzazate » Aït BenHaddou » Telouet » Tizi N'Tichka Pass » Marrakech.

Today, we may visit the Atlas films Studios before we set off for the village of Aït Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where we visit the exotic Kasbah named after it. The latter is arranged on a slope along the fertile Ounila River; it became famous due to facilitating various movies, for example, The Man Who Would Be King, Jewel of the Nile, Jesus of Nazareth, The Message, Lawrence of Arabia, The Mummy, and Gladiator. From that point onward, we drive to Telouet to visit it’s mind-boggling Kasbah, at that point proceed over the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass (2260m) towards Marrakech. We Stop to take photograph’s and appreciate the panoramic views of High Atlas Mountains and the Berber villages situated nearby the road.
